Fig Leaves (Ficus carica L.): Source of Bioactive Ingredients for Industrial Valorization
نویسندگان
چکیده
The fig tree (Ficus carica L.) was one of the first domesticated trees. In 2019, world’s fruit production estimated at 1153 tons. However, leaves are not utilized, resulting in copious quantities bio-waste. To identify promising varieties, hydroethanolic extracts were prepared from five varieties (Pasteliere—PA, Longue d’Aout—LA, Dauphinie—DA, Boujassote Noire—BN, and Marseille—MA). variety with highest concentration organic acids BN (146.5 mg/g dw), while glucose, fructose, sucrose predominant sugars across all varieties. All present α-tocopherol as prevalent tocopherol isoform (above 78%), PUFA fatty predominant, ranging 53% to 71% total acids. showed moderate antioxidant activity (EC50 0.23 ± 0.01 mg/mL), DA presented cytotoxicity against tumor AGS MCF-7 cell line (GI50 158 13 223 21 μg/mL) especially inhibition Nitric Oxide Production evaluation (IC50 20 5 μg/mL). activities probably related high concentrations flavonoids, specifically apigenin-C-hexoside-C-pentoside quercetin-O-deoxyhexosyl-hexoside. Finally, good antimicrobial activity, Yersinia enterocolitica. Fig can be considered sustainable sources industrially valuable bioactive molecules, several potential applications highlighted.

Results Diagnostic work-up showed a positive prick-prick with both fresh raw and dried fig fruit with a total serum IgE of 312 UI/L and a significant serum specific IgE to fig fruit. Co-sensitization to rubber latex and tropical fruits and cross-reactivity between Ficus benjamina latex, was also studied and a distinctive serum molecular allergy diagnostic profile (ISAC) was obtained. The patien...

This study describes morphological diversity and relationship of 14 cultivars and 133 wild fig accessions from central Zagros Mountains located in the west of Iran, based on 58 morphological characters. Among all characters, secondary drooping branches, number of bark tubers, shape of central lobe, length of central lobe/length of lamina, little lateral lobes, shape of leaf without lobed, fruit...
متن کاملSensory profiles for dried fig (Ficus carica L.) cultivars commercially grown and processed in California.
A trained sensory panel evaluated the 6 fig cultivars currently sold in the California dried fig market. The main flavor and aroma attributes determined by the sensory panel were "caramel," "honey," "raisin," and "fig," with additional aroma attributes: "common date," "dried plum," and "molasses." Sensory differences were observed between dried fig cultivars. All figs were processed by 2 commer...

Fig fruit has been a typical component in the health-promoting Mediterranean diet for millennia. To study the potential health-promoting constituents of fig fruits, six commercial fig varieties differing in color (black, red, yellow, and green) were analyzed for total polyphenols, total flavonoids, antioxidant capacity, and amount and profile of anthocyanins. Using reversed-phase liquid chromat...

Fig mosaic disease (FMD) is a viral disease that spreads in all Tunisian fig (Ficus carica L.) orchards. RT-PCR technique was applied to leaf samples of 29 fig accessions of 15 fig varieties from the fig germplasm collection of High Agronomic Institute (I.S.A) of Chatt-Mariem, to detect viruses associated to FMD. Analysis results show that 65.5% of the accessions (19/29) and 80.0% (12/15) of th...
